very impressed so far with how passionately residents are
involved with their community and connected to their local
paper. There is an awareness here that I haven’t seen

of a political junkie, so I’m looking forward to the
exciting political season here this summer.” |

Kathy
Shepard
Reporter
I grew up with wonderful parents and an older
brother who was my hero. When I was 8, we went to the
original Disneyland in California and we often went to
Cape Cod. In my teens, I spent 5 weeks in Ireland.
In 1972 I married a quiet man who made guitars. We bought
an older home in Agawam. My brother died trying to save
a friend, but my daughter’s birth the same year
was a saving grace. After earning a B.A. in Journalism
from U.Mass. I took courses in environmental science and
offered seminars at Mercy Hospital for health professionals.
With a friend, I manage Agawam Friends of Homeless Cats
caring for lost or abandoned cats. Professionally I have
done office work, outside sales, and writing for radio
and newspapers. I have met some of the nicest people because
of my work at Agawam Advertiser News. My hobbies are music,
watching movies, playing golf, and caring for cats. |
